Background

Background

Gyanberry is a technology-enabled admissions platform that helps students and parents seamlessly apply to medical universities across the world. With over 10 years of experience and having guided 15,000+ students through traditional 1-on-1 counseling, Gyanberry combines deep expertise with technology to simplify and democratize the admissions process. Their mission is to make medical school admissions more accessible, unbiased, and data-driven — empowering students to explore opportunities globally through the web and mobile application. The platform allows users to apply to multiple universities, track application status, book mentorship appointments, and manage documents — all in one place — making it a comprehensive solution for international education aspirants.

My Role

My Role

• Collaborated closely with stakeholders to shape the product vision from the ground up, transitioning from a manually managed website to a full-featured admissions platform.

• Conducted UX audits and competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities within similar platforms in the education domain.

• Participated in user interviews with students, parents, and mentors, and conducted extensive user research through blogs and forums to understand user needs and behaviors.

• Gathered, documented, and synthesized insights to define key user personas, problem statements (POVs), and user journeys.

• Led the creation of brand elements including logo design, color exploration, and visual style guide aligned with the company’s existing branding.

• Developed comprehensive UX deliverables including user flows, wireframes (low-fidelity), and high-fidelity prototypes to map seamless interactions.

• Designed and finalized UI components and screens, ensuring consistency, clarity, and simplicity to support content-heavy user interfaces.

• Collaborated with developers, handing off detailed design specifications and continuously supporting implementation to maintain design accuracy.

• Conducted usability testing with real users post-design to validate workflows, identify pain points, and iterate for better usability.

This project gave me the opportunity to build something meaningful from scratch — blending deep user insights with thoughtful design. It was a rewarding journey to create a platform that simplifies complex processes and brings students closer to their dreams.

Takeaways

  1. User-Centered Design:
Engaging directly with students, parents, and mentors through interviews and research gave deep insights into user needs — shaping flows and interfaces that felt intuitive and relatable.

  2. Simplicity Matters When Content Density is High :
With complex tasks like document management and university applications, keeping UI clean, structured, and minimal helped reduce cognitive load and guided users effortlessly through each step.

  3. Collaboration with Stakeholders Strengthens Design Decisions :
Regular discussions with clients, stakeholders, and developers ensured alignment at every stage — from brand consistency to user flows — making the end product both functional and scalable.

  4. Iterative Testing Drives Continuous Improvement :
Conducting usability tests post-design helped validate design choices in real-world scenarios, uncover pain points early, and refine interactions to better support users’ goals.
